Daily Sports Headlines December 11, 2022

Hello everyone, welcome to daily sports Headlines.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal career is hanging in the balance following the national team’s crushing 1-0 loss to Morocco in the World Cup’s quarter-final stage.
Ronaldo, 37, one of the greatest ever to play the game, has never won the tournament, and likely never will following Morocco’s breathtaking and historic upset of Portugal on Saturday night in Qatar.
England captain Harry Kane took responsibility for the Three Lions’ FIFA World Cup 2022 quarter-final exit at the hands of reigning champions France. Strikes from Aurelien Tchouameni and Olivier Giroud helped France beat England 2-1 at Al Khor on Sunday and march into the semifinals of the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2022. Kane had a chance to score the equaliser in the final few minutes of the match through a penalty, but he missed possibly the most decisive penalty of his side’s campaign.
Australia have moved one step closer to cementing their spot at next year’s ICC World Test Championship final with a dominant 419-run victory over the West Indies in the second Test in Adelaide on Sunday. The World Test Championship pacesetters wrapped up the 2-0 series sweep late in the first session on the fourth day of the clash, with pacer Michael Neser completing proceedings by dismissing Marquino Mindley for a duck.
It means Australia moves further ahead at the head of the World Test Championship standings, with the Aussies now boasting an impressive 75 percent win-percentage for the current period.
FIFA opened a disciplinary case against Argentina for its players’ actions following their ill-tempered World Cup quarterfinal match against the Netherlands.
The football governing body cited “order and security at matches” in its disciplinary code for charging the Argentina football federation. Lionel Messi was among a World Cup record 17 players or coaching staff members who were shown yellow cards during or after the game.
After the knock, Gill, who is now gearing up for the Test series, turned anchor to interview Ishan, which turned out to be a hilarious conversation with the later revealing that he was bowled twice in the nets before his double century. Shubman Gill was the preferred third-choice opener for India in ODIs. But the youngster was rested for the Bangladesh series where Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan were the first choice. But Ishan Kishan was presented with an opportunity in the final game after Rohit had injured his finger and the youngster made the most of it to scored a record double ton against Bangladesh on Saturday.
Veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan’s ODI future is likely to be discussed by the new selection committee, which is expected to be formed soon, and a tough call will not be a surprise after Ishan Kishan emerged as a strong option with his scintillating double hundred. Dhawan has struggled badly in eight out of his last nine ODIs. Also, the Delhi left-hander batted with a dated approach which is proving to be detrimental for the team during the Powerplay overs. It is not always about intent but also the inability to force the pace with a limited range of strokes to choose from. Shubman Gill or a Kishan are more innovative in this day and age of T20s.
Steven Smith has called David Warner’s lifetime ban from leadership “fundamentally wrong” and conceded that the lengthy saga of trying to get it overturned had been a distraction for him. Warner dropped a dramatic statement on the eve of the second Test against West Indies in Adelaide when he announced he would be withdrawing from the process implemented by Cricket Australia after they had rewritten their code of conduct to allow Warner to appeal the ban. “From my point of view, banning for life from leadership is just fundamentally wrong,” Smith said after Australia’s 419-run victory.
